OK: Dem AG Says Arrests Scare “Bejusus” out of Medical Community

We found this article so fascinating, that we did some quick digging and found some audio of the General’s comments.  Very enlightening – so we have that going for us…which is nice.   From Tulsa World:

WASHINGTON — Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson said Wednesday that arrests of a few doctors for prescribing drugs inappropriately scares the “bejesus” out of the rest of the medical community.

Testifying before the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, Edmondson linked that concern to the large number of Americans who suffer pain that could be managed. Those numbers, he said, include as many as 50 million Americans and as many as 40 percent of the nation’s nursing home residents.

Three States Weigh Calls for New Charters

From Stateline:

Hawaii is one of three states — along with Connecticut and Illinois — where voters will decide this year whether to convene constitutional conventions. The question is on the ballot in all three states automatically, because their state charters specify that voters decide whether to hold new conventions at set intervals.

The gatherings could write whole new state charters or suggest major changes for public review. But voters would have to approve any changes.

WI: Judge Allows AG to Continue Voter Lawsuit

What, and prevent rampant voter fraud in a Presidential campaign?!?!  Democrats must be incensed!  From the Herald Times Reporter:

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen can legally bring a lawsuit demanding state election officials comply with federal law and confirm thousands of voters identities before the Nov. 4 election, a judge ruled Wednesday.

Dane County Circuit Judge Maryann Sumi also allowed the state Democratic and Republican parties to join the suit and set a timetable to rule on motions in the case Oct. 23. No action by the judge is expected before then, raising questions about whether local clerks would have time to complete the checks should Van Hollen win the case before Election Day.

Obama’s State Senate Ear Mark Probed

Oooops, is this the botanical garden to no where for Senator Obama?  From Chicago Sun Times

A $100,000 state grant for a botanic garden in Englewood that then-state Sen. Barack Obama awarded in 2001 to a group headed by a onetime campaign volunteer is now under investigation by the Illinois attorney general amid new questions, prompted by Chicago Sun-Times reports, about whether the money might have been misspent.

The garden was never built. And now state records obtained by the Sun-Times show $65,000 of the grant money went to the wife of Kenny B. Smith, the Obama 2000 congressional campaign volunteer who heads the Chicago Better Housing Association, which was in charge of the project for the blighted South Side neighborhood.

Alaska Legislators Lock Horns over Palin

From Anchorage Daily News:

State lawmakers in opposing camps are frustrated with the direction of the Legislature’s Troopergate investigation of Gov. Sarah Palin. One group is furious at the decision of potential witnesses to defy the Legislature’s subpoenas, and another thinks the investigation has been politicized and wants to put it on ice.

But neither is getting much traction to do anything. Talk among legislators of calling themselves into special session to force people to testify appears to be fizzling. So is a push by those on the other side who had hoped the Legislature would postpone the investigation of Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, until after the Nov. 4 presidential election.

“There are just a lot of different frustrations,” said Kenai Republican state Rep. Mike Chenault. “It is just become such a political quagmire that I don’t think there’s a winner in any of this.”

TN: Election Victory Stolen, Dem Senate Candidate Says Groups May Push Federal Lawsuit

This fiasco is right out of some 3rd world banana republic, and Tennessee Democrats should be flat out embarrassed.  There is really this win at all cost mentality that pervades all state level Democrats this year.  Not just in Tennessee, but in Nevada and other states as well.  From the Leaf Chronicle:

Incumbent state Sen. Rosalind Kurita said Thursday that she has been approached by several groups interested in pursuing a federal lawsuit to help her win back her nomination, but she’s still undecided about a legal challenge.

Kurita spoke to reporters a day after a special panel of Democrats voted to name Clarksville attorney Tim Barnes as the party’s nominee in state Senate District 22.

“I’m not going to make any quick decisions,” Kurita said of a possible challenge. “All options are open.”

There is no Republican running in the general election, and Kurita has also begun raising money for a write-in campaign she kicked off Sept. 18.

When reporters asked Kurita to name the groups interested in the legal challenge — particularly whether any are Republican affiliated — she refused.

WV: Poll Shows GOP AG Challenger Within 7% of Dem McGraw

Republican Dan Greear message is resonating with the voters in West Virginia tired of  Democrat Attorney General Darrell McGraw.

From Greear’s Camp:

Attorney General Candidate Dan Greear said today he was pleased with a new poll featured in the State Journal by Orion Strategies that shows his campaign quickly closing the gap with current Attorney General Darrell McGraw.

An MBE poll taken September 5-8 showed Darrell McGraw leading by 17%.

Within three weeks, the Orion Strategies/West Virginia Wesleyan poll shows the margin has narrowed to 7% with Darrell McGraw polling 49% and Dan Greear at 41.5%.

“The poll we trust the most is when we are out campaigning and the overwhelming positive response we receive,” Greear said.

“While I believe this will be a close race, the momentum has shifted in the last few weeks in our favor.

As more and more people begin paying attention to our race, the more our numbers are going to climb.

People are sick and tired of Darrell McGraw and his antics and they are responding positively to our message of reform for the Office of Attorney General.”

UT: State Agencies Now Using Twitter

From Santa Barbara News-Press:

The new cool for state agencies and politicians is quickly becoming Twitter, a social networking and micro-blogging service that allows people to post 140 character updates from the Internet and cell phones that can be read online or via text message.

Information about public hearings, upcoming events and even how long lines are at the Capitol is increasingly being spread through Twitter to a small but growing audience.

”Maybe this is a sign of the times, but blogging got to be too tedious,” said Ric Cantrell, chief deputy of the Utah Senate, who blogs and uses Twitter on behalf of the Republican majority.

Utah has long been a pioneer in using technology to connect with the public. Utah.gov and the Legislature’s Web site regularly win national awards for how easy they are to use, how many services are online and the amount of information available on them.
