PROVO, Utah (AP) – The Utah Attorney General’s office has proposed a raise for attorneys who represent death row inmates, hoping the additional money will convince more lawyers to take up later appeals.
Attorney General Mark Shurtleff’s office is proposing an amendment to the Post-Conviction Remedies Act, which regulates how much attorneys can be paid when they agree to represent death row appeals.
