But Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, who directed the state’s legal efforts in the 1990s to seek tobacco money, called the state’s record an embarrassment.
Connecticut has spent less than $10 million total from the settlement on smoking prevention since 2000, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids said.
“Connecticut is spending minimal amounts on tobacco prevention despite the fact that the state is receiving more tobacco-generated revenue than ever before as a result of a cigarette tax increase that took effect July 1, 2007, raising the state cigarette tax by 49 cents to $2 a pack,” notes the report, which was released in December.
