TX: Couple Loses Their Attack On School Minute Of Silences

Texas public school children will continue to observe a minute of silence at the beginning of the school day despite a Dallas couple’s unsuccessful efforts to challenge the state law.A U.S. district court in North Texas upheld the moment of silence statute on Jan. 4 after David and Shannon Croft filed the lawsuit against the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District and Gov. Rick Perry. The statute, passed in 2003, allows Texas school children to voluntarily reflect, pray or meditate at the beginning of each school day.

David Croft said he and his wife decided to file the lawsuit after their child was told by a teacher to keep quiet during the moment of silence because it was a “time for prayer.”
