When the Legislature returned to Harrisburg last week, lawmakers didn’t focus their attention on a smoking ban, health-care legislation, an open-records law or basic budget matters.
No, in the state House, an election-year tax-cut party broke out. By the close of business Jan. 17, House members voted by a unanimous 197-0 vote to pass a wide assortment of tax cuts that will almost certainly never become law.
