McCollum pops up on TV first

Republican A.G. candidate Bill McCollum fires the first salvo in the race to replace outgoing A.G. Charlie Crist

Republican Bill McCollum is taking aim at two safe havens of his Democratic opponent in his first ad in the general election for attorney general…. McCollum is targeting two safe sources of Democratic votes, the liberal-leaning Tallahassee market, and the Broward home base of his Democratic opponent, state Sen. Walter Campbell of Tamarac.

Campbell’s challenge will be how to cut into McCollum’s $10 million worth of name I.D.

Can it be done?

McCollum, a former Central Florida congressman, had raised nearly $2 million through mid-September and stockpiled three-fourths of it. A former statewide candidate for U.S. Senate, McCollum’s name recognition was enough to clear the primary field of three other GOP officeholders who had filed to run for the seat Attorney General Charlie Crist is vacating for his governor’s race.

Campbell raised $1.38 million and had about $1 million of it left to spend. He defeated fellow attorney Merrilee Ehrlich, who raised only $10,550, in the Democratic primary.
