There are probably a good number of folks in Tennessee who think it’s time for Mike Williams to move on or become a Democrat. He cast his lot with Tennessee Democrats, and lost. Now he’s trying to hold on desperately to his state senate seat acting like an independent. Mike was looking out more for Mike than he was for his constituents – and it looks like his constituents have figured that out.
Tennessee state Sen. Mike Williams of Maynardville, the state Senate’s only independent, isn’t saying whether he will run for re-election.“I don’t know,” said Williams, who is often viewed as the swing vote in a legislative body evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans.
Last year, Williams lost major committee assignments and his job as speaker pro tem when Republican state Sen. Ron Ramsey of Blountville defeated longtime Democratic Lt. Gov. John Wilder of Mason in the Senate speaker’s race.
