Passage would benefith EVERY candidate for state office in Missouri – not just the Republican GOP nominee.
JEFFERSON CITY — A Republican Senate leader will try again to repeal the state’s campaign contribution limits, a move that could prove especially helpful to whoever wins the GOP nomination for governor.Majority Leader Charlie Shields’ bill, which will be considered by a Senate committee today, would let donors give as much as they want. Any contribution over $5,000 would have to be reported electronically to the Missouri Ethics Commission within 48 hours.
Shields, R-St. Joseph, contends that the limits don’t work because rich donors find ways around them. Some set up multiple committees to hand out money. Others funnel donations through scores of political party committees.
