OK: Detained Illegal Immigrants Ordered Released

OKLAHOMA CITY — An attorney representing two illegal immigrants who were jailed because of their immigration status isn’t sure what effect an appeals court decision will have on a controversial state law.The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals on Feb. 7 issued an order to release Luis Mauricio Ochoa and Gregorio Robles, the men’s attorney, Joan Lopez, said. A published opinion is expected later.

Lopez said she hopes the judges will provide more feedback on how courts should interpret the immigration law in their forthcoming opinion.

“That order doesn’t really tell us anything,” she said. “I don’t think that opinion offered our courts any guidance whatsoever.”
