New Jersey apparently is the only state that prohibits its police officers from using stun guns.
TRENTON — One day after a report urged New Jersey police be allowed to use less-than-lethal weaponry, a state Senate committee heard presentations Thursday about stun guns, designed to disable a human by electric shock. In some cases, stun guns have been linked to deaths. New Jersey has barred them for nearly two decades.
“There obviously are risks associated with stun guns,” Assistant Attorney General Ronald Susswein told the Senate Law and Public Safety and Veterans’ Affairs Committee.
“I, for one, would like to learn more about these devices,” Sen. John Girgenti, D-Passaic, the committee chairman, said as he opened the hearing.
So would Attorney General Anne Milgram, said Susswein. “She wanted very precise data,” he said.
I agree with the issue, that usage of stun guns should be sensible otherwise it would lead to life threatening situation, where people can end up with serious injuries. So the persons using such thing should be trained.
