Georgians would not be subjected to automated calls from political candidates under a bill that easily passed the Senate on Tuesday.Senate President Pro Tem Eric Johnson (R-Savannah) proposed Senate Bill 379, www.legis.ga.gov/legis/2007_08/sum/sb379.htm, which bans so-called “robo calls,” a popular and cheap technique used by candidates to reach out to thousands of voters.
However, the bill would allow automated calls from schools, employers, public safety officials and such businesses as a doctor’s office.
