ALBANY — There’s likely to be a significant gap between what legislative leaders and Gov. Eliot Spitzer think the state has to spend next year, possibly signaling a bruising budget battle ahead, lawmakers indicated Monday.
“We’re going to be apart,” Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno told a group of local-government officials meeting near the Capitol, two days before the Legislature and Spitzer are slated to try to agree on tax-revenue estimates for next year.
