House Speaker Bobby Harrell says he supports a new bill that he hopes will bring movies and television series back to South Carolina.
The state’s film incentive package was changed last summer to encourage filmmakers to hire South Carolina residents and purchase goods from businesses inside the state.
But Harrell says those changes are keeping filmmakers away. He says South Carolina had no new movies in 2007 and only one new television pilot.
The bill would restore many of the incentives passed by lawmakers in 2005. It also would expand wage rebates for hiring residents and create an apprenticeship program for South Carolinians.
