We always tell you to stay tuned to races across the country, and here
are a couple of good reasons.
First, the First State – Delaware.
The AGs contest between Republican Ferris Wharton and his Democrat opponent
Beau Biden has crossed the $1 million
threshold.
Biden,
a former federal prosecutor who began raising money in December, collected
about $614,842 in the nearly 10-month period ending Monday. He had $247,402
remaining.
Wharton,
a veteran state and federal prosecutor who didn't enter the race until late
March, collected $435,774 and had $178,226 in the bank.
An interesting fact about
this race:
In the
2002 contest, won by two-term incumbent Republican M. Jane Brady by 3
percentage points over Democratic former U.S. Attorney Carl Schnee, the
candidates spent $981,000.
Still got three weeks and
change to go and neither one of these candidates are done raising or
spending. The
Wilmington News Journal article also makes an interesting point that “virtually
all” of the money raised by Wharton’s campaign came from within the
state, while “about 35% of Biden’s money came from out of state
donors, through six fund-raisers held in New York (that’s Spitzer
country) and Washington, DC (that’s papa Biden
country).”
Wharton or the Delaware
GOP have been up on the air, both TV and radio with a healthy round of ads
either extolling Wharton’s qualifications for the office, or highlighting
Biden’s lack of qualifications for the office.

I imagine polls will be
forthcoming, so…stay tuned!
New Mexico – the second
open seat Democrat state that has another high name ID Democrat facing off
against a better qualified Republican.
Republican Jim Bibb is
keeping good pace financially with Democrat Gary King – the poll in this
race was conducted on September 25th – which showed Bibb
trailing King, but the 25th was also the first day of what has been
a monstrous paid media buy placed by the Bibb campaign. Democrat Gary
King took in $627,263 and $4,516 in-kind. He spent $456,114, and had $191,021
in the bank. Republican Jim Bibb reported contributions of $483,443 and
in-kind contributions of $8,239. He spent $451,126, and had $143,394 in the bank.
That’s a tighter race than most have expected in this state as
well. Name ID only gets so far, as we’ve mentioned before.
We mentioned the monstrous
buy by the Bibb campaign – clicking below will tell you just what Bibb’s
been talking about.

to do.
