Having won a settlement with AT&T Mobility, Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum is now setting his sights on Verizon, Sprint/Nextel, Alltel and T-Mobile.
The state will “initiate investigations” to determine if customers of those firms are being charged for “free” third-party services, McCollum’s office said Friday. The probe will be conducted by Florida’s Cyberfraud task force.
AT&T Mobility, formerly Cingular Wireless, agreed last week to make restitution to Florida citizens who were billed for third-party cell phone content advertised as free, the AG’s office said. The total could go as high as $10 million, according to some reports.
