Senate Majority Leader Richard L. Saslaw said yesterday that Senate Democrats will block efforts to salvage regional transportation authorities until House Republicans agree to a statewide tax or fee increase to raise more money to maintain roads.Saslaw (D-Fairfax) lashed out at House Republicans over their refusal to consider ways to raise additional money for transportation.
“I don’t know how long these people can put their heads into the ground,” Saslaw said. “We’ve got statewide problems. . . . There is nobody in here that wants to deal with anything until we fix the shortfall in the maintenance fund.”
