State Spotlight: Iowa House and Senate

DES MOINES — After two years with
the thinnest of margins separating the political parties in the Iowa
Legislature, control in both chambers could change hands Election Day.

Operatives on either side of the
aisle want to win the Legislature one seat at a time and are focused on a
handful of key races that will decide whether Republicans or Democrats hold the
majority.

During the last General Assembly,
the Iowa Senate has been split in a 25-25 deadlock. That forced leaders to
forge a unique power-sharing agreement. In the House, Republicans held a 51-49
advantage for the past two years.

The name of the game is energize
and mobilize
