Former state Sen. Bill Walters startled political party leaders by signing up this week to run for his wife’s state House seat as a Democrat, stirring dissension in an already weakened Republican Party of Arkansas.
The Greenwood lawyer served 18 years in the Senate as a Republican. His switch and remarks he made about his reasons “highly offended” a great many people, said Dennis Milligan of Bryant, Republican Party chairman.
