Candidates for state and county offices have until this coming Monday to file to run in this year’s elections. Republicans could face some tough campaigns, particularly holding on to Speaker Greg Curtis’s seat, which he won by only 20 votes in 2006 and is again facing the same challenger. Party Chair Stan Lockhart says the Republicans intend to wage a tough campaign for every seat.”
We run every race as if it’s a tough campaign,” said Lockhart. “In the end, each candidate needs to persuade his or her constituents that they’re the right candidate for the job, the right person for the job. I’m not sure it matters where it’s at, whether it’s a safe Republican seat, whether it’s a Democrat seat, in the end, our responsibility is to make sure we have good candidates running.”
