MONTGOMERY — A former Republican opponent of Attorney General Troy King has filed a complaint accusing him of possible criminal violations of the Alabama Fair Campaign Practices Act.
Mark Montiel, easily defeated by King in the 2006 GOP primary, sent a March 4 letter to the office of Secretary of State Beth Chapman outlining the allegations.
King’s personal attorney, H.E. Nix Jr., responded to Montiel’s allegations in a March 6 letter, saying that the attorney general did nothing wrong. He wrote that Montiel “speculates, hypothesizes about and perhaps, even wishes for ‘possible violations’ of the FCPA in General King’s filings.”
