“It’s all politics and personalities and in the meantime you have 10,000 employees just hanging out, waiting to get (abused) by this law. The lawmakers aren’t doing their job, and to me, that’s a crime,” Meehan said.
State Sen. Carol Roessler, R-Oshkosh, a proponent of John Doe reform, received a letter from an inmate who claims he has never “backed down from Department of Corrections staff and never will.”
“He told me that he addresses his grievances against staff ‘head-on using the courts to file criminal charges to go after the staff member’s job first,'” Roessler said. “They know they have power through the courts and that is what the inmates are doing; they are literally putting at risk those officers in the institutions.”
