Not the first time we’ve covered this for you. Looks like the folks over at Juicy Campus may have not thought their breakthrough idea through completely.
SACRAMENTO — If JuicyCampus.com is to be believed, a UC Berkeley student by the name of Mai is “sooooo hotttttt.” Now JuicyCampus may be in hot water with California regulators. A lawmaker asked the state attorney general Tuesday to investigate online gossip sites that critics say are hurtful and dangerous because they allow users to anonymously spread the kind of libel once found only on bathroom walls.
Assemblyman Alberto Torrico, D-Fremont, cited in particular JuicyCampus, which has expanded to include UC Berkeley and six Southern California universities.
He suggested that the site may violate state civil rights and consumer protection laws.
“I am particularly concerned that the site is specifically designed to shield its users from the threat of libel claims,” he said.
