Arizona – ground zero for innovative fixes to complications that arise from illegal immigration solutions.
PHOENIX (AP) — Stalled for weeks at the Legislature, proposals to create a state-run guest worker program in Arizona now have the support of some key legislative leaders and are scheduled for votes this week. While America’s guest worker programs are now by the federal government, supporters of a state-run program said they were frustrated with Congress’ failure to overhaul the country’s immigration policies and update its efforts to provide businesses with more access to skilled labor. Although the idea was endorsed by a House committee in February, it stalled in the face of objections from Republican Rep. Russell Pearce of Mesa, who is the Legislature’s staunchest illegal-immigration foe.
