Creativity…

…is what it’s going to take to get a Republican Lieutenant Governor elected by the Tennessee State Senate.  Outgoing Republican state senator Don McCleary’s name has been floated as a potential challenger to looong time Democrat L.G. (1971 looong time) John Wilder.  The L.G. position is chosen by a majority vote of state senators in the Volunteer State – and Republicans have been in majority in the state senate since 2004 – yet Wilder, through sheer force of will, has managed to persuade a Republican member of two vote for him against the Republican candidate – Senate MAJORITY LEADER Ron Ramsey.

So, why McCleary – how about he could pull a couple of disgruntled Dem votes, Wilder’s been L.G. and Senate Speaker for 35 years he’s bound to have sowed some disgruntledness, over to his side.

The L.G. isn’t required to be a state senator, so it’s possible.  The real power in the Senate still resides in the Speakers position, but if McLeary could get elected L.G., who knows what could happen next?
