Gov. Steve Beshear asked the attorney general Wednesday for an opinion on whether the Council on Postsecondary Education violated state statutes when it decided to hire Brad Cowgill as its president.
Beshear’s decision brought a rebuke from Senate President David Williams, who said he feels Cowgill has the education, administrative background and leadership to do the job, and that Beshear will not succeed in his bid to disqualify him.
“I think it’s the prerogative of the Council on Postsecondary Education to choose the person that they think will be the best president,” said Williams, R-Burkesville. “I think the state and higher education would be better served if the governor didn’t meddle.”
