What a year for Statewide elected Democrats and Sex Scandals. We’ve been in Kansas, New York, and now Ohio.

Democrat Attorney General Marc Dann has just admitted to an extramarital affair with one of his employees. Those other, now former, Democrat Attorneys General first delayed their resignation and then turned theirs in – for more family time. The question now is, how long until Marc Dann decides to turn it in?

Soon after news of Kansas Democrat Attorney General Paul Morrison’s sex scandal broke, the AP reported Morrison saying:

“I sincerely apologize for this failing in my personal life and I pledge to continue to fight for the safety and security of Kansans to the best of my ability.”

“I will continue to defend the people of this state and perform my public duties as I have my entire career.”

Just 4 days Later, Morrison announced his resignation.

And what about the former Democrat Governor (and former AG) from New York? Remember, he’s the guy that Marc Dann spent his entire 2006 campaign saying He wants to be “Ohio’s” version of.

Spitzer literally slammed the door to resignation chatter March 10, shortly after apologizing to the people of New York:

“I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I apologize to the public to whom I promised better.”

Spitzer issued his resignation just 2 days later.

In case you’re new to all of this, the blogs are aflame on this story: Blogger Interrupted starts talking about the consequences of the investigation led by Ben Espy. Naugh Blog gets some decent commentary from readers and points out some things that we haven’t read in todays coverage – Dann admits there are “pictures” as a part of the mess – oooh boy! Political Science 216 comes up with a fun thing on the horizon – the Ohio Democrat Party’s upcoming state convention – will the troops rally around Marc Dann? Vegas odds are not good. But wait, there’s more. You can see Marc Dann’s statement given to the Columbus press corp, and then follow up with most of the Q&A he took (it is brutal) from the press. One thing that comes from all of this is that Mr. Dann is the only person who was involved in this mess who was not asked to resign or fired. An interesting point. To you politicians and operatives out there watching and reading – these two videos should be required reading for how NOT to handle a damaging situation like this. Truly, after watching both of these videos, we see even more questions raised than answered. The Columbus press corp did a good job on the press conference (Marc Dann did not)- next we’ll see how they write about it.

Bottom line, in the SNS team’s experience, the longer Ohio’s Democrat A.G. is around, the longer the press and his political enemies – both Republicans AND Democrat, will have to pick apart today’s statements, and then beat him senseless with them. To borrow from one of Mr. Dann’s new strategies in dealing with life – he’ll wait 24 hours, or a bit longer, and come back and say something like: “You know what, we’ve done some great things for consumers here in Ohio, but it’s time for me to get back home, reconnect with my wife, whom I care about very much, so the business of the people of Ohio can go on without distraction.”
