OH AG: Let The Impeachment Proceedings Begin

The dog pile has begun. Ohio Democrat A.G. Marc Dann is toast. We know we’re going out on a limb here, but the Associated Press gives us some sense of confidence.

Gov. Ted Strickland told reporters that Democrats will begin drafting an impeachment resolution against Attorney General Marc Dann right away. Republican House Speaker Jon Husted said Monday that his chamber — which takes the first step in any impeachment — was already reviewing the process.

The right Reverend Governor Strickland went on to say:

“I would hope the Attorney General will understand that his effectiveness as an attorney general has been so diminished that in my judgment he can no longer effectively serve in that office,” Strickland said Monday. The governor and Dann were among many Ohio Democrats swept into office in 2006 in the wake of a Republican scandal over state investments.

“I think it’s important for Democrats to send a very clear message that we will clean our own house,” Strickland said.

He’s right, Ohio Democrat’s don’t want this guy on the ballot come November – it would totally skew their chances of picking up any seats in the Republican controlled legislature. Of course, if they were really concerned about this – they would’ve taken these steps much sooner, and shown more moral outrage over other matters brought to the voters attention by Democrats – like the Democrat State Representative who showed porn to young students.

If Ohio Democrats were so upset about this, they could’ve done something about it a long time ago. This has been going on for much to long in Columbus, and trusting Ohio Democrats to clean this mess up is like trusting the dog not to knock over the garbage can when you’re gone.

Ohio voters should be saying to themselves: Fool me once – shame on you. Fool me twice – shame on me.

UPDATE: Ohio Democrats are now abandoning ship…too little too late it seems. Way to cut and run boys.

The Ohio Democratic Party, which strongly backed Dann’s come-from-behind campaign in 2006, is preparing to sever its ties with Dann. Chairman Chris Redfern said he expects the party’s executive committee to rescind its 2006 endorsement of Dann when it meets Saturday, which Redfern said would make Dann an independent officeholder. Democrats also are prepared to lead the impeachment drive, Redfern said.
“Pending Saturday’s events, he’ll be holding office as an independent who was elected as a Democrat,” Redfern said. “We will distance ourselves both figuratively and literally from Marc Dann until he makes the right decision, which is to step down.”
