From WTEN:
A plan designed to save consumers money at the gas pump this summer is going before New York State lawmakers today. The senate will vote on whether to eliminate gas taxes in the state from Memorial Day until Labor Day.
Supporters of the Republican-backed bill say it would save New Yorkers about 32 cents per gallon, but many economists say cutting gas taxes statewide, or nationally, would only put more money in the pockets of big oil companies.
NEWS10’s Eric Egan reports on this controversial deal.
It almost looks like a done deal in the senate that lawmakers will vote to suspend the state gas tax for the summer. G.O.P. leaders statewide have been pushing this bill, but a change won’t happen overnight.
Why is it taking so long to suspend the gas tax ?
