What would a nomination contest be without a little difference of opinion between two popular statewide officials. From JournalGazette:
Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter on Thursday endorsed his chief deputy in the race to succeed him.
The endorsement of Greg Zoeller would normally be unsurprising, but it comes just days after Gov. Mitch Daniels endorsed his opponent, Valparaiso Mayor Jon Costas, for the Republican attorney general nomination.
Speaking at Allen County Republican Headquarters, Carter said he has worked with Zoeller for seven years and witnessed his ability to lead the organization in helping protect consumers.
“Indiana needs a highly skilled lawyer to lead the attorney general’s office,” Carter said. “I feel he’s highly qualified for the office. I’ve seen his work.”
Zoeller said that though he has received numerous endorsements, the support of Carter is the most important because Carter knows how to run the office.
