From the Argus Leader:
A Brown County lawmaker says he’s having second thoughts about signing a contract with the state to give hunters free access to his land.
Sen. Jim Hundstad. D-Bath, planned to ink the deal last week with the Game, Fish and Parks Department after receiving an attorney general’s opinion that said the agreement wouldn’t violate the state constitution.
Attorney General Larry Long offered no legal opinion, though, on whether a contract with the state would violate the new code of conduct the Legislature adopted in the wake of a couple of scandals involving lawmakers or former lawmakers.
And that gave Hundstad pause.
“I admit I’m having second thoughts,” he said. “I just wanted to use some of the land to give some people a free place to hunt, but I don’t want to do anything that creates a conflict. That’s why I wanted the official opinion in the first place.”
