Although you wouldn’t know the mayor is a democrat from this article, we assure you he is.
From The Daily Journal:
Former Assemblyman Mims Hackett Jr., the mayor of Orange who already faces federal bribery charges, found himself again in trouble with the law Tuesday — this time with the state, which accused him of fraudulently billing the city more than $5,700 in travel expenses.
The state charged Hackett on Tuesday with official misconduct, alleging the 66-year-old forged 16 fraudulent receipts between 2002 and 2006 for meals at expensive restaurants he enjoyed as mayor and submitted for reimbursement to Orange.
“We charge that Mayor Hackett shamelessly stole from the city he was sworn to serve at a time when it was struggling to meet its financial obligations and the needs of its residents,” Attorney General Anne Milgram said.
