Montana AG Money Race

From the AP:

Campaign-finance reports in the race for state attorney general show Democrat Steve Bullock and Republican Tim Fox are the money leaders.

In the three-way Democratic primary race, Bullock leads partly because of a $26,836 loan he made to his campaign on May 12. Candidates’ loans to their campaigns count toward the total receipts and are often not repaid.

Through May 17, Bullock gathered about $183,765 and spent about $151,760, according to reports submitted to the state political practices commissioner on Thursday. That left a cash balance of $32,005. Bullock listed $33,440 in debts, including the loan and unpaid television advertising time and ad placement.

Next among the Democrats was former state Sen. Mike Wheat of Bozeman, who took in nearly $136,520 and spent about $121,665. His balance on May 17 was $14,855. Wheat loaned his campaign $30,000 last year.
