From the Post-Standard:
David Knapp isn’t a member of the state Assembly, but he has several ideas for legislation he’d propose, if elected, to ease one of Central New York’s biggest concerns: rising gas prices.
Knapp, a Republican running for the 121st Assembly District, which includes Cicero, Clay, LaFayette, Manlius and Pompey, on Monday outlined a five-tiered approach to easing people’s pain at the pump.
The proposal includes:
Calling on Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to investigate price gouging by big oil companies.
Permanently eliminating all state sales tax on gasoline. Knapp also supports a temporary “holiday” from state gas taxes this summer.
Issuing $1,000 tax credits to people who buy hybrid or “flex fuel” vehicles. “In the short term, it helps with fuel economy,” Knapp said. “In the long term, it shows the automobile manufacturers that there is a demand for new technology, so they’ll develop it.”
