The dean of Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law assumed duties as the state’s Attorney General May 28, exactly two weeks after the resignation of Marc Dann.

Nancy Hardin Rogers, 59, took the oath of office during a press conference in Gov. Ted Strickland’s Cabinet Room Afterwards, she answered media questions before planning to head across the street to the Rhodes State Office Tower to meet with employees and get to work.

She said she expected to face “tough decisions” in the days ahead but reiterated her confidence in the attorneys and staff of the attorney general’s office, many of whom have spent their careers serving the public.

“It’s a shame that the actions of a limited number of persons who did not live up to these values have undermined the public confidence in this office,” Rogers told reporters, shortly before beginning her official duties. “It has led some to doubt that the attorney general still carries the moral authority that’s needed to serve the people of Ohio. This situation must be turned around quickly.”

Rogers’ appointment will be temporary, however. She pledged to serve until voters select a permanent replacement in November. Afterward, she plans to return to her position at the OSU law school.

“I have no desire to run for the office this fall,” she said. “I have every desire to devote all of my energies to this endeavor for the next five months.”
