TRENTON — Democratic politicians in New Jersey are refusing federal prosecutors’ demand for documents relating to the possible misuse of the nearly $350 million in “pork barrel” projects funded by the legislature over the past five years.
It’s connected to the federal corruption probe of Camden County State Sen. Wayne Bryant, a Democrat from Lawnside, and is said to be focusing on “potential legislative conflicts.”
U.S. Attorney Chris Christie sent out subpoenas in October seeking New Jersey legislative records and correspondence related to the state budgets of the past few years. But lawmakers, led by the Democrats, have been sandbagging investigators and are refusing to turn over the documents.
So federal investigators are heading to court on Wednesday to force the state to hand over the documents.
