OH: New AG Looks To Settle Dann’s Sexual Harassment Cases

As a lawyer and educator, Nancy Hardin Rogers’ expertise is in dispute resolution. As attorney general, those skills might be tested in mediating two high-profile sexual harassment cases left by her predecessor.

The attorney general’s office, in a letter sent Wednesday to Rex Elliott, the Columbus attorney representing Cindy Stankoski and Vanessa Stout, signaled its interest in settling the matter out of court.

The stakes are significant: potential settlements of up to $300,000 apiece for Stankoski and Stout, who, according to the findings of an internal investigation report released May 2, were sexually harassed due to a “hostile work environment” that existed under former Attorney General Marc Dann of Liberty.

Rogers, the dean of the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, was appointed last week by Gov. Ted Strickland to come in and mop up the mess. Ohio’s 48th attorney general replaced Dann, a Democrat, who resigned May 14 as a scandal about sexual harassment, cronyism, mismanagement and potential misspending of government money swept over his administration. He was in office only 17 months.
