From the Hudson Hub Times:
Yet another investigation of former Attorney General Marc Dann’s administration was announced recently, this time by state Auditor Mary Taylor.
The Republican office-holder informed newly appointed Attorney General Nancy Rogers of her decision to initiate a special audit in light of “allegations of financial improprieties.”
“The allegations of misspending and other wrongdoing at the attorney general’s office warrant elevating our review to a special audit,” Taylor said in a released statement. “I take the allegations of potential misuse of public funds very seriously.
“The highly trained special audit investigators on my staff will thoroughly examine the potential misspending of public tax dollars at the attorney general’s office and report the findings to the public once the investigation is complete.”
The auditor’s Special Audit Task Force reviewed the allegations and could have decided to address any resulting issues during regular annual or biennial audits. But, “based on the nature of the allegations” it initiated the special audit instead, according to Taylor’s letter to Rogers.
Taylor’s office already is assisting the state’s inspector general in his investigation of Dann’s administration.
“Every effort will be made to coordinate our audit activities so as not to duplicate our efforts or those of the inspector general’s office,” Taylor wrote.
