Mississippi Democrat A.G. Jim Hood might be facing a credible opponent in November’s General Election.
From Geoff Pender’s column on Sunday in the Sun Herald:
• Hopkins might make it interesting – So far, no serious challenger to incumbent Democratic Attorney General Jim Hood has come forth. That may change, and the challenger might be a well-known South Mississippian.
I called retired Maj. Gen. Al Hopkins, a Gulfport lawyer and longtime state and local Republican Party leader this week to tell him I'd heard his name mentioned as an AG candidate.
“I heard that, too,” Hopkins said. “I'm looking at it. I've still got to connect some dots. I don't know yet whether those dots will be connected by the March 1 qualifying deadline. But yes, I am looking into it.”
Hopkins is a longtime National Guardsman and administrator and a big supporter of Gov. Haley Barbour. Hopkins has in the past been encouraged by state Republicans to run for governor. In 2004, he was on the short list of candidates Barbour considered for adjutant general to run the Mississippi National Guard.

I really got to know Mr. Hopkins recently. After talking with him at length and reviewing his bio; I am convinced that he is the Attorney General that Mississippi needs. With his experience and character I feel he will restore confidence in the office of the chief Law Enforcement officer of our state.
