From the Political Fix:
His last bid for office resulted in, temporarily at least, re-writing campaign finance bills. After losing his race for State House in 2006, Trout challenged the law rescinding campaign contribution limits, leading the state Supreme Court to reinstate the limits.
Of course, Trout’s lawsuit proved more a detour than a road block: Legislators this session, avoiding the procedural errors cited by the high-court ruling last year, once again took the caps off political giving.
Trout, though, is undeterred.
He’s back as a candidate, this time running for the State Senate seat being vacated by Mike Gibbons.
Trout faces an uphill primary battle from Steve Eagleton, nephew to former U.S. Sen. Tom Eagleton, who was recruited into the race after Kevin Gunn, to the chagrin of party leaders, dropped out to take a seat on the Public Sevice Commission.
