From the Montgomery Adviser:
The Alabama Republican Party’s original goal was to raise $4 million by 2010 and then to use those funds to wrest control of the Legislature from Democrats. Republicans have already surpassed the first part of that goal, but political analysts say they will have difficulty accomplishing the second.
Gov. Bob Riley, who with state Chairman Mike Hubbard and Sen. Del Marsh helped lead Campaign 2010, raised the goal to $7 million earlier this year and told people that Republicans would take control if they raised that amount.
Last week, Republicans announced the campaign had 100 donors in the governor’s circle, the campaign’s top level in which donors pledge to give $10,000 a year for four years.
Hubbard, who is also minority leader in the House of Representatives, said the campaign is “monumental” and has raised more money than the party has ever raised. He also vowed that the fundraising will continue.
