From the MorningCall.com:
Rep. Josh Shapiro, a rising star in the state Democratic Party, has called on embattled House Majority Leader Bill DeWeese to give up his post for the good of the party and to restore the public’s faith in the Legislature.
”We need leaders who are committed to transformational reform,” Shapiro, of Montgomery County, said at a Capitol news conference Monday. ”We need a monumental shift, and we need it now. We can’t do better, at least not in our caucus, until we dedicate ourselves to a new direction.
”And as a first step in this direction, I believe it is imperative that Bill DeWeese resign as House majority leader.”
Last month, state Attorney General Tom Corbett charged a dozen current and former House Democratic lawmakers and aides with using taxpayer dollars to enhance the party’s political fortunes and to illegally reward staffers who volunteered for political campaigns. Corbett has promised more arrests.
