If there’s a time to tap into public sentiment against the Pennsylvania legislature, this is the time to do it. From the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:
The Pennsylvania General Assembly would be reduced by 52 members — saving taxpayers millions of dollars — under a bill featured Tuesday at a House State Government Committee hearing.
The hearing comes 597 days after the bill was introduced, said its sponsor, Rep. Mark Mustio, R-Moon.
The odds are long for passage. House State Government Chair Babette Josephs, D-Philadelphia, has been under fire for stymieing the legislation.
Under Mustio’s proposed constitutional amendment, the House would be reduced from 203 to 161 members, and the Senate would be cut from 50 to 40 members. The bill mandates a 20 percent cut in the $300 million-plus budget of the Legislature, the largest full-time legislature in the nation.
