State Rep. John Pallone (D-54) said he’s not surprised by the calls for DeWeese’s resignation. But, he said, it might be in haste and called it political grandstanding.
“We have a rule in our caucus that if any member in the leadership team is indicted, they must step down from their position,” said Pallone, whose territory includes Export and parts of Murrysville. “DeWeese has not been indicted so I have no right as a member to demand his resignation.
“If he is indicted though, he will have to step down.”
Charges were not filed against DeWeese, and no accusations were made of wrongdoing. But, Dermody said, there is an “appearance” of a problem because he presided over the caucus when the alleged crimes occurred.
