Ladenburg is on the attack because he’s the underdog in the race.

The latest Elway Poll shows McKenna leading 42 percent to 39 percent, with 29 percent undecided. The poll taken earlier this month shows McKenna is supported by 74 percent of Republicans but Ladenburg is getting only 54 percent of Democrats. McKenna has raised $1.5 million for the race, compared with Ladenburg’s $450,000.

McKenna, 45, a former business attorney and three-term King County councilman, was elected in 2004.

McKenna touts his work to reduce Internet crime and identity theft, combating drug labs and domestic violence, and promoting legislation to strengthen penalties for sex offenses. He said his next focus will be on prescription drug abuse, focusing on pushers who take prescriptions to multiple pharmacies.
