State voters handed Republicans a historic victory Tuesday — control of the Oklahoma Senate.
The GOP for the first time will control the upper chamber after picking up two seats held by Democrats.
For the last two years, the Senate had been tied; but now Republicans will have a 26-22 advantage in the 48-member chamber.
Senate Republican Leader Glenn Coffee of Oklahoma City said the Republican presidential nominee, John McCain, who carried Oklahoma but lost the general election, helped Senate Republican candidates.
