Republicans retained control of the Indiana attorney general’s office and state superintendent’s spot Tuesday, as voters narrowly elected new GOP faces to replace long-serving incumbents stepping down this year.
Republican Tony Bennett will become the state’s next superintendent of public instruction after defeating Democrat Richard Wood. Bennett, a school superintendent from southern Indiana, will replace Republican Suellen Reed, who has held the office for 16 years — the longest tenure in state history.
Republican Attorney General Steve Carter will be replaced by his chief deputy, Greg Zoeller, who beat Democrat Linda Pence. Carter is leaving his post after eight years.
