From Philly.com:
McCall, the majority whip from Carbon County, appears to have the support of Philadelphia Rep. Dwight Evans, who wields immense influence heading into the Nov. 18 reorganization vote, Democratic sources said.
With the Democrats expanding their one-seat majority to 104-99 in Tuesday’s election – they dominated in the Southeast – Evans probably has the juice to become Pennsylvania’s 138th speaker. But several sources said that he would prefer to maintain control of the state’s purse strings as chairman of the powerful Appropriations Committee.
Evans and McCall did not return phone calls yesterday.
