This probably puts Arkansas on the list of states to watch in 2010. Not losing seats in one chamber, and gaining seats in another is a great way to end up after the Obama love fest of 2008. Who know, this might bode particularly well for the Republican AG, LG, and Secretary of State candidates in Arkansas for 2010! From Lonokenews.net:
Closer to home, the state GOP stopped the bleeding by picking up legislative seats after losing numbers for two consecutive election cycles. In fact, of the four major races that Gov. Mike Beebe campaigned for Democratic candidates, the Republican won. Greenwood’s Republican Terry Rice defeated Democrat (and former Republican) Bill Walters for Walters’ wife’s old House seat. In Russellville, after being outspent by her Democratic opponent, Andrea Lea won her House race, and North Little Rock Republican Jane English won despite Beebe appearing in her opponent’s ads. And, in the state’s highest profile race, incumbent Republican state Sen. Gilbert Baker was re-elected despite Beebe’s aggressive campaign for his Democratic opponent.
