“I think this is certainly a historic day,” said Glenn Coffee, Republican Senate leader, ahead of Tuesday’s ceremony in the Senate chamber. It will be the first time a Republican majority has been sworn into office.
“I and other people have been working hard for this day,” Coffee said. “We will be able to catch our breath and celebrate a little bit.”
Republicans also picked up four seats on the Oklahoma House during the Nov. 4 general election to increase their majority to 61-40. The 101-member House became Republican for the first time in eight decades in 2004.
