From the Commercial Appeal:
Leaders of the new Republican majority in the Tennessee legislature unveiled an unprecedented new process, more open to public view, for the legislature’s selection of the state comptroller, state treasurer and secretary of state.
The top-ranking “constitutional officials” play major roles in the operation of state government, particularly in financial operations.
Under the plan released Tuesday by Senate Republican Leader Mark Norris of Collierville and House Republican Leader Jason Mumpower of Bristol, candidates must submit applications containing 30 detailed questions about their personal and professional backgrounds by Dec. 5 to the two leaders’ offices.
